HOW TO SET BOUNDARIES AND STOP PEOPLE-PLEASING: PSYCHIC PROTECTION AND EMOTIONAL FREEDOM FOR AZNS

This workshop is for you if you are a creative self-identifying womxn / femme / non-binary artist of Asian American and Pacific Islander American descent for all creative experiences and all creative levels.

To our fellow AZN womxn, femmes, and non-binary folx:

Emotional boundaries and psychic protection can be especially challenging for AZNs.
We are collectively navigating the psychic minefield of gendered expectations, the cultural ethos of family and community and collective consensus must come first at all costs even to the expense of personal mental health and happiness, saving face, avoiding shame, and minimizing inconvenient emotional outbursts. ...Not to mention a million other injustices including homophobia, internalized racism, the self-erasure of assimilation, the cultural stigma of mental illness, and the unrealistic demands of living in a patriarchal, capitalist society that values productivity and output over all other things.

LOL, NBD!

What we desire for you in this new year and new decade is this:

+ You are fully attuned to your own intuition, pleasure and joy. You know how to listen to your body's cues AND honor them.
+ You know how to prioritize your desire, your pleasure, your authenticity, your wellness, your joy first and foremost before other people's needs, demands, and expectations. + You can clearly and unambiguously say NO to other people's requests on your time and energy with minimal to no guilt so that you can say YES first to what YOU need to replenish your own well.
+ Zero apologies, zero guilt for taking up space, having desires, and fulfilling those desires.
+ Liberation from toxic relationship dynamics and self-imposed toxic expectations internalized from familial and cultural values.
+ Turn down that responsibility dial on taking on other people's problems, other people's emotional baggage, other people's healing journey, other people's projected BS.
+ You fully believe this: if you want to be of service to others, you know that you have to put on your own oxygen mask on first. + You also know this to be true: if it's not a FUCK YES, then it's a no.

Participants will be empowered with the following practices, tools, resources, rituals, and skills:

+ Basic meditation and mindfulness techniques for grounding and checking into your own body and energetic field
+ Sensual movement exercises for listening to your body's intuition and needs
+ Writing prompts for excavating your personal history and subconscious narratives around boundaries, receiving, power dynamics, people-pleasing and pleasure--especially in relation to values inherited from both the dominant culture and from familial cultural expectations.
+ Defining the necessity of emotional boundaries and how they exactly work to protect you and your personal space, your energy, your time, and your mental health
+ Creative visualization exercises for creating, defining, and activating your own strong energetic boundaries
+ Practical techniques and strategies for honoring your boundaries, saying no and meaning it, and activating your ability to say YES to your needs
+ Tools and practices for protecting, strengthening, and clearing your energetic field from other people's emotions, demands, and influences

Come prepared for the workshop with writing utensils and comfortable clothing for movement.

Let us unlearn what no longer serves us to learn and re-learn who we already are and who we are meant to become. We can't wait to excavate, heal, and co-create new patterns and new narratives for our communities with all of you.

love,
Yumi & Janet
